Abstraction Project Operations


Flatiron’s mission is to serve cancer patients and our partners by dramatically improving treatment and accelerating research. Our team is building a disruptive, oncology-specific software platform that will connect cancer centers across the country on a common technology infrastructure and address key healthcare challenges. Today, the Flatiron Health OncologyCloud™ platform includes the industry-leading electronic medical record for oncology, a first-of-its-kind analytics tool, patient portal, and integrated billing management. Ultimately, our goal is to help cancer centers leverage real-world oncology data, at a scale and clinical depth never before seen, to revolutionize cancer research and transform care.

Our Abstraction team is looking for an outstanding team member who will help to drive Flatiron’s efforts to produce high quality data in support of our many data products and offerings. Successful candidates will have incredible project management skills and an innate ability to navigate complex organizations, and will be excited to create and generate new knowledge meaningful to cancer patients.

This opportunity is endless, but for starters you will support the Abstraction team in developing metrics, project plans, and action-oriented reporting that drive operations across this large cross-functional team.  You will collaborate with our oncologists, oncology data specialists, engineers, and product team to ensure that timelines are met, processes are optimized, and data of the highest quality is consistently produced.  Working in a fast-paced and rapidly expanding business, you will be consistently challenged to partner with Flatiron colleagues to exceed expectations of our internal abstraction customers.


  • Partner with Abstraction leadership to optimize processes and develop project plans that ultimately expand capacity of the 100+ member team
  • Develop dashboards and reporting capabilities that allow all internal Flatiron stakeholders to track team progress
  • Collaborate with the engineering, product, and oncology teams at Flatiron to automate reporting and improve processes inside of our unique abstraction software platform
  • Continuously revise project plans as issues arise, while keeping all internal and external stakeholders abreast of challenges and proposed solutions
  • Serve as an internal Flatiron expert for our abstraction process, capacity, and capabilities

About You:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Incredible project management and operations skills, with strong ability to keep projects and processes on track, maintain accountability, all while building strong relationships across the organization
  • Understanding of electronic health record (EHR) data and how it’s stored, as well as the complexities of deriving value from unstructured data
  • Excited to work side-by-side with colleagues across functions, including those with technical and medical backgrounds
  • Intellectually curious, with outstanding problem-solving skills
  • Nose for value; able to effectively prioritize in a challenging, time-sensitive environment
  • Impeccable communication skills
  • Passionate about our mission to improve healthcare through technology

Bonus points…

  • Experience working in healthcare consulting, especially oncology
  • MBA or related degree from a top university
  • Familiarity with project management tools, such as Asana, Basecamp, Microsoft Project
